A Letter To The Little Black Girl … In Me.

Often times we are so occupied with the woes of society, the racism against our culture, and the fear of being killed or detained by police that we forget to live,

to exist, to just be. So we have to sit back and ask ourselves "Why are Black girls being targeted by every race? Why does it bother society that we want to sit at our own table uninterrupted?

Why is the happiness of a Black girl so abnormal? Why do most women from all backgrounds and ethnicities want our physical traits and our features but don't want us to personally embrace in them?

Malcolm X says it best "The most disrespected woman in America, is the Black woman. The most un-protected person in America, is the Black woman. The most neglected person in America, is the Black woman.

Although this statement is true, it may not necessarily be a bad thing either. Black girl, let me teach you how to thrive and overcome obstacles as a Black woman from being disrespected, unprotected, and neglected in America.

The beautiful thing about being a Black girl is being Black. Our complexion, no matter what shade, comes with Burden and struggle that we don't necessarily chose for ourselves.

It's your strength

that carries you through those tough times that puts a chip on your shoulders. Black girl, walk with dignity, pride, and with your head held high because no matter how much the world

tries to tear you down you are going to make it anyway baby. It's in your blood. It's through your ancestors. It's all a Black woman know, survival. The very reason Black girls

are a target is because almost every girl in the world admires the Black girl. Face it; it's lit!

Everybody wants in. However, the tables have surely turned. We are no longer looking for acceptance. We are no longer looking for validation. We are no

longer looking to fit into a normal standard that deems us inferior. We have started loving ourselves loudly and that makes some people very uncomfortable. Black women

have begun to teach this concept and pass it down to you Black girl. That is why you are the target.

People hate to see you flourishing mentally and physically without

them. Society wants to be included in the next best trends by nature even when they have excluded you all of your life. Being the target is goals Queen. No one is able to figure

out how the Black girl goes through so much adversity and still be able to live her best life which is why in society a naturally happy Black girl is considered abnormal.

When society see you playfully being weird or goofy and just happily existing they assume something is mentally wrong with you. They see

it as stupidity as if other races of women and young girls aren't the same way in their natural form. It is your birth right to be happy Queen. Don't allow society

to make you the problem for simply existing. You don't have to explain it, you don't have to obtain it, you don't ever have to fight for it, and you don't ever have to hide

it. You feel free because you are free. You don't have to be quiet and hide your joy because other races of people are present. They don't want to hear you enjoy the normalities

of a free life because it was never meant for you to enjoy it. Nobody is entitled to be included in your conversations Black girl and society cannot silence you because of it.

My love, you are beautiful when you smile. You are glowing when you laugh. You are indeed free Black girl and don't you ever allow anyone to make you feel otherwise. Society

doesn't want to see you happy unless they give it to you. Nobody can "give" you anything that is rightfully yours. That includes freedom, happiness, and normality. You have

been subjected to verbal abuse with no cause, made to feel unworthy, and have been forced to silence because nobody wants you to shine and be granted the spotlight you so deserve.

You've earned that spotlight because we as the Black female population has set the trend for all women, teenagers, and young girls around the world to mock and eventually

attempt to steal. From fashion, to the natural hairstyle movements, to dance cultures, music, and just producing fruitfulness of love and happiness in the image of God;

You are the standard. Black women are the most hated yet the most imitated. Black girl, let me tell you why.

It's all about credit. The world revolves around accreditation. Most people like to steal the ideas of fashion and style from an entire culture and call it their own invention.

Meanwhile, creativity has been a proud forefront for women of color dating back to the history of the Antebellum South. During 1830 through 1860 Black slave women and slave girls

were required to wear a headwrap by their slave Master's mistresses because the Black girls beautiful kinky hair texture and beautiful features were a distraction for the slave

Masters. The mistresses felt that if the Black girl's hair was covered up and she wore rags for clothes then the slave Masters would stop lusting over her exotic and beautiful

features while enabling the slave Mistresses to uphold their European standard of beauty as superior. So what did the Black female slaves do? Used the headwrap as a rebellious movement.

Black women have now accesorized the headwrap into fashion and wear it proudly while still reigning supreme as beautiful. This was the opposite of what the true intent and purpose

of the headwrap was used for during the Antebellum era in the South. Black women have always been able to beautify and accesorize all of the fashion statements that were

meant to demean us and our appearance; hence the reason why we are now the culture that most women across the nation seek for fashion ideas. Black girl, you are just as

creative. The Black woman endured these creative traits as a young Black girl. It's called improvising. It's in you little sister. The world is watching you for your next

move. They are watching you for your next idea. Take that notion with a sense of proud entity and reclaim your credit Queen. Magazines such as "Allure" are teaching people of other ethnicities how to wear afros that they told

you were sociably unacceptable. Wear your kinky 4c curls freely because those curls are yours and everybody wants them. Unlike others, your crown doesn't need adjustment because

it grows naturally from the root. Embrace it and wake up beautiful. When you pick out your outfit for the day add every piece of beautiful jewelry that Negro slave girls

and slave women were not able to wear during The Negro Act of 1740 that was passed in South Carolina in the Antebellum South. When you put on that dress make sure it hugs

you in all the right places and beat your face too. Go to the nail salon to get a pedicure and a manicure because Black women keep their selves together and have always been

diligent in their appearance even during slavery. After your ensemble has been carefully selected accentuate it with some killer shoes to die for. Strut your most confident

walk and bop them lips together to smooth out your lip gloss on them big, full, and beautiful lips because your lip gloss is luscious honey! These are the very traits that

slave mistresses have envied in times where we didn't even have the legal right to be beautiful. Yet, somehow we are still a gorgeous threat til this day. If Black was never

beautiful little sister then why would they have worked so hard to revoke our beauty standards by passing the Negro Act of 1740? What's amazing Black girl is that even when

we were not beautiful, we were still beautiful. Not even the appearance section in The Negro Act of 1740 couldn't keep the Masters off of us. It's 2018. Don't you dare hide

your beautiful traits because of unwanted attention. Let them lust, let them admire, let them stare, and let them steal. They can look but don't touch. Nobody can be a Black girl

better than a Black girl. Your hair is maculate, your clothes are amazingly centric, your sense of style and fashion is brilliant, and your curves are luscious baby sister.

Your soul is free. As quoted by Gill Scott Herran "She was Black before it was fashionable to be Black."

Dear Black girl, your complexion is a blessing. Wake up every morning and be grateful. Love yourself. Do not be conformed by stereotypes that were only publicized because

your authenticity threatens the fraudulence of others. Do not allow society to put you in these imaginary boxes that measures their own personal limitations and expectations of

how far society wants you to succeed. Do not allow anyone to punish you or mock you for your originality while every other culture of women across the globe takes credit

for your creation. Travel the world pretty fine Brown and soak up the sun on a beautiful Blue Beach in the Summertime because your gorgeous Melanin deserves its vitamins.

Indulge in all the education you possibly can. You are smart, you enunciate, and you are articulate. Do not dumb yourself down to make anybody around you feel more comfortable.

Be unapologetically intelligent. Be unapologetically Black. You were not put on this Earth to please anyone around you. Little sister, you're on this Earth to thrive and

conquer the world without having to prove your worth or value to a soul. You're on this Earth to live, laugh, and love because you're created in God's

image. You're on this Earth to enjoy your liberties and your freedom carefree and happily. You were put on this Earth Black girl, to live ... while Black.
